Great Content Brings Traffic

Do you remember the great baseball movie Field of Dreams? Legendary actor James Earl Jones said the famous lines “if you build it, they will come”. Some people think that if you build a website, people will come. Not true! If you build great content, people will come.

A great example of this is RF Cafe.  It is a niche site in the rf, wireless industry. To give a brief critique of the site, it has some room for improvement in design, usability and information architecture. However, it has grade “A” content for wireless engineers.

This site is regarded as the “thought leader” in RF engineering. RF Cafe serves as both a directory to top sites in the industry as well as a forum host. It has 3,000 plus pages of content, which helps it get a Page Rank of 6. Because of this, it gets really good traffic.

Moral of the post: it all starts with great content.
